Weaving Classes

Spring Weaving Workshop

Holiday Lake 4H Center

April 9th - 12th, 2017

This class is ideal for someone who’s never woven, or who needs a refresher. Both rigid heddle and 4-shaft looms will be used, making this a unique offering.

Each student will weave the center fabric for a tote bag, using wool yarns. Learn about different loom types and capabilities. Students will purchase coordinating fabric and handles after class, and sew their bags at home, using the instructions provided. Students can make either a simple lined or unlined tote bag.

Class size is limited to 12 students. Teens are also welcome.

Take a mini-vacation and learn a new craft!

Weaving Lectures and Workshops

San Diego Creative Weaver’s Guild

September 9th - 10th, 2017

Guild Program: “Breaking the Grid”

This lecture is designed to inspire weavers to try new structures and techniques that will help them digress from the usual rectangles and stripes found in weaving. Learn which techniques you want to explore to get organic shapes, color shifts, and so forth.

Workshop: “Holes Where You Want Them: Bead Leno”

In this workshop students weave a variety of lace samples, round-robin style, using bead leno, a loom-controlled technique for making warp twists. Students go home with a nice set of samples, some with texture and some with holes and open areas, in a variety of fibers.

This workshop teaches students to set up the loom for bead leno, and covers alternative drafts and design ideas for variations.
